About this campaign
4 years ago I came across a local pet rescue that had the cutest 8-week old puppy available for adoption. That very day I called the shelter and went to meet him. At the moment of our very first interaction I knew we would be best friends. The rescue had named him Jake, and although I tried to change his name several times, Jake just fit his personality so it became permanent.
After the first couple of years living in an apartment, I got a house for Jake to enjoy a back yard, which he uses daily to chase squirrels and take naps in the sunshine. We are also a mile from a natural preserve which is Jake's favorite place to hike. Camping, chasing his ball and frisbee and treats are some of Jake's most favorite hobbies.
I'm in need of help because like so many people I lost my job due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Chemo treatment is expensive and difficult to come up with so quickly while not working. Words can't possibly describe my gratitude for any help saving my best friend.
Last week I noticed Jake wasn't feeling himself so I took him to see his vet. Unfortunately, I received a diagnosis that every pet owner dreads - lymphoma. His oncologist at Animal Diagnostic Clinic recommends him going through 20 weeks of chemotherapy to enter into remission and prolong his life 1-1.5 years.
The saying that your rescue dog is actually the one who rescued you is an understatement. From the moment I brought 8-week-old Jake home, we have been inseparable. He really has become my very best friend. Every day I find myself having conversations with me as if he knows what I'm talking about. Although he doesn't respond verbally, his looks and personality make it seem like he does.
