Jake is an eight-month-old Corgi mix in Grand Rapids , MI, who needs $2,000 for critical leg surgery.

Jake was an answer to prayers for Kendra S.

"I have PTSD and spine and pelvis injuries that have devastated my life. I don't have family and have always loved dogs, so my doctor prescribed that I have an emotional support animal," Kendra tells Waggle.

Soon after, she just happened to look on Craigslist and saw an adorable puppy in need. She arranged to meet him, and it was clearly meant to be.

"He wrapped his arms around my neck, and my heart melted," Kendra says.

Jake has made an enormous difference in Kendra's life. "He is a beautifully sweet puppy. He's energetic, loves attention, and loves to give it. He's been meeting lots of people and puppies and has been so happy," she says.

But then something completely unexpected happened. "I've been looking forward to getting him in doggy day camp and more socialized, so he needed to be neutered. He had a right undescended testicle. He had swelling that went into his right thigh. He started limping the day after," she says.

Somehow Jake fractured his hip, and he needs surgery to repair it. The cost of the operation is way out of line with Kendra's limited budget.

"My only source of income is Social Security disability," Kendra says. "I've been trying so hard with the little income I have to give Jake a good life. He's so young and loves life. Now he is so sad because he can't be his active self and is in pain. I just can't afford the surgery, and I don't know what to do."
