About this campaign

The Lancaster SPCA knew there was something special about Jovie.

"We rescued Jovie from the county animal shelter back in June," the SPCA tells Waggle. "We knew he was going to be a medical dog and needed our help. The county shelter's budget cannot cover specialty care."

It was clear Jovie had leg issues, so the SPCA brought him to Charlotte Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE), where specialists found his cranial cruciate ligaments needed to be repaired in both his back legs. Jovie needs two major TPLO surgeries to live a happy, pain-free life. On top of these issues, Jovie is heartworm positive -- so before he can safely go under anesthesia, he will need an echocardiogram.

Jovie is an easygoing dog. He was a favorite among the staff at the animal shelter. He fit right in with his foster family and their other pets. He also likes to socialize with the neighbor's dogs. He is gentle and friendly. Once Jovie has both of his surgeries and heals, he will be eligible for adoption.

Despite his limitations, Jovie still enjoys getting out and about in the world. He does well walking on a leash. He is friendly with other dogs. He has even been to several state parks with his foster family over the last few months. They make sure to take it easy with him and allow him to set the pace.

As of right now, the SPCA will have to spend about $8000 for Jovie's surgeries. "We realize this is a large expense, but when we rescue an animal, we are all in," the group adds. "With that being said, we could really use some help raising funds for Jovie!"
