About this campaign
Katashi is my 4th Akita, he is 3 years old. He was adopted to bring comfort to my then 6 year old female Akita Yoshi since she lost her brother to a car accident. For those of you who have multiple pet family you know when one member passes it is not only tragic for the owner but for the other pets as well. Yoshi was depressed and I knew she needed another companion.
In December of 2024 I noticed Katashi was developing bumps on his rear leg paw, after several vet trips and recommendation of mass removal; Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialist removed the masses in May 2025 and determined they were cancerous. Rear leg amputation was recommended as a lifesaving procedure. The masses have returned and are now the size of golf balls; time is running out.
My Akitas came to work with me every day while running my construction business in Baltimore; they were always recognizable as the "two big ass dogs" hanging out of my truck. People friendly and always a conversation starter. Katashi has brought joy back. Yoshi is 10 and I'm aware of what's next for her; Katashi is only 3 so I am not prepared at all for the potential of losing him.
I spent $5k in May for the initial mass removal; amputation is projected to cost around $5K. I just don't have it. It's hard to know how much is too much to spend on your pet to save their life but I feel like I need to try and exhaust all options so I am asking for help.
