I met Kaze in 2019 when he was just six months old — a big, fluffy bear of a standard poodle from a breeder in Virginia. I’ll never forget seeing him for the first time — standing on the steps, all fur and love, the biggest pup in his litter and already larger than life. I got him with the dream of training him as my service dog — and for two years, I did it all myself.

Last week, everything changed. Kaze ran into a car late at night while I was letting him out. He didn’t get hit head-on, but the tire caught his paw and likely hurt his back leg.
