About this campaign
I came across Kimmy on one of the Facebook animal rescue groups that I follow. This poor baby was owner surrendered and is positive for heartworms. I knew her time in the shelter was limited and I wanted to give this sweet girl a chance --to give her a place to feel safe and loved.
Kimmy will be rescued from a shelter in Georgia on 11-21-23. We have 2 other dogs: Tucker, who is 13 that we've had since birth, and Julius (Jules), a German Shepherd we rescued from a high kill shelter last February. We weren't looking for another dog, but Kimmy's story struck our hearts and we wanted to give her a fighting chance. She will be slowly & safely introduced to our dogs.
Kimmy has had a rough life. She lived with an owner who did not take preventative precautions with her and now she's paying the price. Instead of her former owner helping her, Kimmy was taken to a shelter, knowing that her condition would make her undesirable to most potential pet owners and that she could ultimately be euthanized.
Kimmy will be spayed and microchipped on November 20, 2023. I will pick her up the following day and work to acclimate her to our home. She will visit our veterinarians, Dr. Lawrence and Dr. Morgan, at Daleville Animal Hospital on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 to assess her condition and begin heartworm treatment.
There are 2 treatment options from which to choose. The cheaper method (slow kill) can lead to irreparable damage to Kimmy's heart. If she's a candidate, I want to opt for the progressive treatment, which is costly, but will hopefully spare Kimmy serious repercussions later.
