I got Koa and his sister Kala together as puppies. We’ve been inseparable since — they’ve gone everywhere with me, even when they weren’t supposed to. Kala was diagnosed with meningitis at 1, and we fought hard to get her stable. Now at 6 years old, Koa is facing his own sudden health crisis.

Three nights ago, Koa began having violent seizure episodes — six in under 12 hours. After two ER visits and follow-ups with his primary vet, he’s scheduled for an MRI and spinal tap at the Veterinary Neurology Center in Tustin. We’re trying to find out if it’s a brain tumor or something we can treat.

Koa is my shadow — affectionate, stubborn, loyal. He’s helped me through losing my parents, financial struggles, and the hardest seasons of life. He’s goofy, loves his sister, and never leaves my side. The house is quiet without his presence. He’s more than a pet — he’s part of me.
