Kona Ali’i Hoyt came into our lives in the early months of 2017. Our family has always had the desire to give a shelter dog a loving home. We soon found Kona and knew it was meant to be. We also adopted his brother, Charlie. Kona lives alongside Charlie, and his ten rescue feline siblings: Sully, Guinness, Amelia, Lexi, Ollie, Magnus, Jace, Simon, Alec, and Clary.

Kona is a snuggle bunny. He loves to cuddle and rest in the living room. He is the best companion and enjoys spending time with Charlie. He’s more of a couch potato, but when he is up and active, he loves to sit in the backyard and watch the birds in the lake. One of his favorite activities is carrying around a piece of cardboard and showing it off to his family while wagging his tail wildly.

Something that makes Kona special is his love for chin scratches and headbutts. He loves to press his head into your leg as a way to say, “I Love You.” He loves being opinionative and makes sure his voice is heard every night. He does a little jump while barking, which always helps him stand out in a crowd. He is a big teddy bear, a love bug, always smiling and excited to see you when you get home

Kona was diagnosed with a Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture in both of his knees (the canine equivalent to a human’s ACL). Kona's left knee will be repaired on November 28th, 2023. His first surgery is estimated to be between $5,814.58-$6,542.62 with a required deposit of $5,814.58. His surgery will be performed at the Florida Veterinary Referral Center in Estero, FL by Leonardo A. Baez.

In recent years, our financial situation has worsened. Heidi became unemployed in 2020 due to medical issues. Gene, a disabled Veteran, became the sole provider for the family. Additionally, In 2023, Guinness had emergency surgery, which maxed out our Care Credit by $7,000.
