About this campaign
Lady was meant to be my baby. I walked out of a lunch with an old high school friend in 2016 and in front of the entrance was a car pulled over with the driver and several people petting a dog. She nearly hit this dog with her car and pulled over and caught her not knowing the next steps but wanted to make sure she was safe. I offered to take her once we went to scan for a microchip and if there was no chip I was willing to foster her until a family came forward or we could find her in a rescue.
Lady stayed with me and after 3 months with no luck she was family. She was gentle and very easy going with my dog Zoey and cat Atticus who bonded quickly to each other. She was already trained and unknown to us until recent X-rays - was shot in the leg by a buckshot or large pellet gun. She was healed by the time I met her.
She was terrified of storms. There was a historic flood in 2016 and she found comfort in my bathtub, my cat was her thunder buddy. Since then, my cat and her were always together during a storm.
In 2017 I started a Petsitting business and Lady became less afraid of storms and very social but always laid back. She followed small dogs or puppies we boarded or fostered over the years. She was heartworm positive and most likely was left outside so she loves any comfy place to sleep.
She has to sleep with a pillow like a human. When she started to sleep with us she would steal a pillow from my bed to bring into hers. Eventually we let her sleep in the bed with us. My mornings always started with my three babies all snuggles together once I got up.
We later found and adopted another stray - a black cat Jet who is laid back like her .
Lady loves the dog park and car rides. She is so polite, she will go up to people to say hello and if she is not acknowledged immediately she politely walks away. But if someone gives her attention she lights up like “OH HIII ITS ME!” . Never jumps. Rarely barks.
Her bark is definitely from her husky side. She is the unofficial bouncer at the dog park, she will run to dogs playing rough or in fights and YELL at them to stop which surprisingly works most of the time. She does not cuddle but loves when I rub her ears and we ask her to do her “noodle dance lady” which is her on her back and she wiggles. She barks for attention to eat or rarely to play. She is patient and so well behaved she is truly so perfect although I wish she would be attached or more physically affectionate
Last year Zoey our other dog was diagnosed with Lymphoma and Leukemia. We did treatment for 4 months and she passed less than a month short of 17. Our cat is now on Prozac because he has not adjusted well since her loss.
Lady started seeming stiff a while back and at her annual in November her vet noticed a bump on her front leg and asked if she ever had a fracture etc. We got imaging done and found her front left leg has a growing leg mass - most likely cancer. We did further X-rays and confirmed it has not spread. We made the decision to amputate her leg so she will no longer limp and be in pain and enjoy what time we have left with her. We will explore options on treatment post surgery but we do not want her to know she is sick or have her be in pain. We know bone cancer can be aggressive and painful.
Same week as her diagnosis our cat Jet had a growth removed we are hoping was just a cyst but it is possible it is melanoma. We won’t get results for two weeks. His procedure today was $600.
I cannot take it if 3/4 babies have cancer. We lost Zoey who was my Velcro dog, my shadow.
Lady being diagnosed knocked me off my feet. I lost my baby, and now I will eventually lose Lady to cancer.
I do not even know my future plans for my own healthcare but my pets and my petsitting business has saved my life. When I found Lady I was nearly done with college. I quit my other part time jobs and went all in to this business. And she is our star employee. She helps socialize puppies and dogs adopted from rescues with bad backstories.
She is gentle and just so perfect. She like all dogs doesn’t deserve pain or to suffer. We are truly for any time or assistance.
