About this campaign
Guardians of Florida Animal Rescue and a good Samaritan stumbled upon a gut-wrenching situation in the wake of Hurricane Ian.
Two senior dogs were abandoned in a home.
"We received a call about two elderly and very sick dogs, Max and Lester," Dana B., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "They were left alone to fend for themselves after their family was rescued and the home flooded.
It devastates us when people are forced to choose between their safety and their pets."
Even though the rescue was without power and at capacity with other dogs they saved from the storm -- they could not leave Max and Lester behind!
"When our volunteer arrived, they were both lying on the floor, completely immobile in their excrement. They had to be carried out and transported to our kennels," Dana says.
Max was so sick he was suffering. The kindest thing was to let him go in peace. Lester was hospitalized gravely ill with pneumonia and multiple health issues. He's fighting for his life.
The rescue desperately needs help paying for Lester's veterinary bills. They are overwhelmed with all the animals they saved during the hurricane and are struggling.
"We aren't giving up on Lester," Dana says, "We will do everything we can to get him the medical care he needs."
