we had a beautiful dog for ten years who passed away. He was a rescue. We were unable to get over the loss of him. We went looking and called many different places trying to find another family member to give back all the love he gave to the family. After quite a while and a lot of searching we found an animal shelter in Elizabeth and thought we found a jack russell who unfortunately had issues and we were unable to take him. The attendant there after bringing him back inside my oldest son Larry went back in with him. The attendant informed my son they had just brought in three rescues from a hoarding situation and insisted that we go back in and look at these three pups. Liberty was hiding in the back of the cage growling in fear. the attendant took her out and put her in my arms and she curled up in a ball. Sick, scared, cut up and dirty. She was approximately four months old. The attendant told us to sit on the bench with her and take as much time as you need. In that time, she gradually picked up her head and looked at us all and in that instance we knew that she was coming with us. We were already trying to pick a name and the attendant looked down at the wall and there was a picture of the statue of liberty. We decided since we were giving her a chance at liberty, what better name to give her than liberty ? He then took her back in the kennel. She squeaked a little. We went to the desk to fill out the application for adoption. The vet came out and said that a physical was going to be done on her. She was found to have cuts cough colds and infections and therefore had to be medicated for 5 to 7 days. We signed everything and waited patiently for the call which meant we were able to pick her up.
