I adopted my first pet, Fleasy, from a rescue organization when he was only several weeks old. He was found sick and malnourished at a dumpster behind Whole Foods in the middle of August. He was also FIV+ and a black cat, so his chances at adoption were lower than most kittens his age.

For most of my life I've always had an appreciation for animals, but I thought people who treated their pets like family were odd. My perspective changed the moment I brought Fleasy home to our apartment. He is the most social and affectionate cat. Every time people meet him, they are surprised at how he runs to them for attention, seeking pets, cuddles, and belly rubs.

Fleasy is special because he is the best advocate for cats. His personality breaks most negative stigmas about cats as he is incredibly social, affectionate and he listens! He is special to me because he has saved my life. He was there for me when I lost both my parents in quick succession and he's been a great companion during my health issues.

As per the vet at Heart + Paw in Marlton, 1 to 3 of Fleasy's teeth has been absorbed into his gums, causing issues. This was originally identified by his bad breath which was followed by a constant need to open his mouth and chew when nothing was in his mouth. It is assumed that at the very least he is uncomfortable, if not in pain. Also, with him being FIV+, this could become life threatening.

I am currently unemployed. I lost my job due to COVID and I've been in ailing health ever since. I recently spent 5 weeks in the ICU, but I'm fortunate to be alive and my health has been improving since. I'd like to now focus on Fleasy's health.
