About this campaign
Originally from Mississippi, Lilly's previous owner passed away and the family dropped her and her son off at a shelter down there. Someone got in touch with my local Lab rescue that I volunteer with and they moved Lilly and the son up her. I began fostering Lilly and someone else took the son. They got her spayed and UTD on all vaccines. Heartworm was negative at the time but now positive.
The reason I began to work for our local Lab rescue was because we just lost our black Lab, Brandy, last October and the whole family was devastated. Lilly for was my first foster and last because we couldn't let her go. She was such a light in our storm of sorrow. It was as if she knew our pain and she worked to make everything better for us. Now she needs us and we have to be there for her.
I believe that some dogs are innately predisposition to be service dogs and that is what Lilly is. She is our emotional support dog. She even took care of my daughter-in-law (stage 3 classic Hodgkin's lymphoma) while they stayed with us 4 months. Lilly has had a hard life loosing her first owner and now being diagnosed with Heartworms on her 6th month recheck is devastating for us.
Lilly was pulled from a shelter in Mississippi by someone connected with our Lab rescue. They made sure she was spayed, up to date on her vaccines and tested her for heartworms prior to her coming up north on January 22, 2022. Homestead Veterinary Clinic tested her on 7/15, and the results turned out to be positive. A 2nd test was done to confirm she is positive for microfilaria, HW.
We just can't handle one more financial medical or emergency blow. When Brandy got ill, we had been to the vet 5-6 times trying to get her better, but the expense was tremendous. Now Lilly needs this lifesaving treatment.
