About this campaign
Link was found all alone under a house. Our friends had been feeding him tuna for a few days and noticed he pulled in his back leg in pain. They pleaded for someone to come take him and we jumped at it. We brought him to the vet and discovered his leg was broken in two locations. The vets created a splint for him since he was too small for a cast. The first splint was made to look like a pumpkin since it was October. We returned in two weeks and then got a Batman splint. He seemed to be coping well with the healing process. After less than a week I to his second splint it began to shift and seemed painful, so we called for an emergency visit. They noted he had outgrown this splint and gave him his big boy splint. After another week, there appeared to be an irritated spot on his leg where the splint was rubbing and he looked uncomfortable. We again took him to the vet. This time it was found that he had an open site that had become infected under the cast. We did another X-ray and the vet notes that he was healing improperly and that the infection may spread and kill him. At this point, the recommended course of action is to amputate the limb and save his life. This little guy is our world and I cannot bear the though of losing him. The surgery is estimated at $2235 and we are doing our best to pick up extra work shifts and raise money through fundraising. We only have two weeks to come up with that money and as an EMT I only make $2000 a month and have to pay all of my bills. Link is currently on antibiotics and bed rest but it’s temporary.
