About this campaign
Just hearing what happened to Lucy will bring tears to your eyes.
"She was found dumped in the country," Vada D., her new human mom, and rescuer, tells Waggle. "She was beaten and burned. You could see every bone in her body. She had worms so bad the vet thought she was pregnant."
Despite the odds, Lucy surprised everyone. "They said she wouldn't live and sent me home with worm medicine and high dose vitamins. I followed her around the yard for a month, cleaning up her bowel movements, spraying bleach so I wouldn't have worms in the yard. I got very attached," Vada says.
Lucy pulled through! As she started to gain weight and get better, it became apparent she had a leg injury that needed immediate attention. "Lucy tore her ACL; she has to have TPLO surgery," Vada says. "Dallas Pets Alive helped me get her to Maizes Mission's for X-rays and pain medications. I am so thankful for the help I have received."
Lucy made herself part of Vada's family. All they want this holiday season is for Lucy to get the care she needs. She already has a forever home where she is dearly loved. "She is usually very energetic but has a hard time getting around with her hurt leg," Vada says. "She likes to play fetch with her squeaky toy. When the grandkids come, she is so happy her whole body shakes."
Vada has had a tough 2021 and didn't expect to rescue Lucy, but she fell in love as soon as she saw her. Now they both need your assistance. "I live on a fixed income with my husband, who is 78," Vada says. "He has been ill, in and out of the hospital the last few months. He had a blood infection that almost killed him! It's been hard on all of us. I would be very grateful for your help."
