Luna is a 6-year-old Pitbull in Los Lunas, NM, who needs $2,000 for Splenectomy.

When I worked as a veterinary technician, it was so hard not to take every pet home that needed one. Luna came into my life when her previous owner said she was “too expensive” and “stupid” because she would get hit by a porcupine when he left her outside all day. She got porcupine quills 3 times before coming to live with me. Now I’m in nursing school and unemployed due to COVID.

Luna is stuck to me like glue. We have a bond like no other. We “spoon” snuggling when on the couch or in bed, she sleeps under the covers, and is the most gentle, sweet dog I’ve ever met. She loves me unconditionally, and I the same to her. Luna is best friends with a cat (who nurses on her daily) and has a little dog friend that she gently plays with.

I’m a nursing student and unemployed due to COVID. Up until my new student status, I’ve been working as a veterinary technician for 11 years. I’d always struggled financially from the small salary we get as techs, but now I’m living off of unemployment..

Luna has been pretty healthy up to now. She is only 6 years old! She began having diarrhea, which turned into not eating, which lead to vomiting and bloody diarrhea. At the vet’s office, they took x-rays to determine she had a mass attached to her spleen. At this point, surgery is needed as she is bleeding into her abdomen. Her vet is Route 66 Emergency Vet in Albuquerque.

Luna is just about scared of everything. A fly concerns her. When things are moving, she looks at them and you can see her thinking. Yesterday, she saw a Felix clock with a moving tail at the vet’s office...she stared at it for about 5 minutes wondering about it’s presence. Luna’s authentic “mom” behaviors toward out cat is also extremely adorable. Luna’s housemates will struggle if she is gone.
