Luna is a 4-year-old Chihuahua in Plant City, FL, who needs $1,800 for Dental Cleaning with Extractions Grade 3/4.

Luna came to our shelter in March of 2022. Her original owners rehomed her to a friend from church when their young child was diagnosed with cancer. The friend did not know Luna was terrified of strangers and realized quickly that she was unable to handle Luna. Our shelter was happy to help in this situation and give Luna a place to call home where she can be given the time needed to trust people.

Luna is a shelter favorite for our chihuahua lovers. She takes a while to trust people so for that reason she is available for adoption through our VFA Program which stands for Volunteer-Foster-Adopt. With this program, we have interested adopters spend time tending to the needs of the dog to develop familiarity and build trust. When ready, they will foster the pet and then hopefully adopt.

Luna is a little bit looney. She will only let people pet her that she knows and trusts. She is fine with being picked up, but only if you have a blanket around her. She isn’t one of those dogs that just likes women. She loves men too - if she trusts them. She loves being petted and exploring. She is not great with other dogs but did become friends with a large senior dog at our shelter.

We started to notice that Luna’s teeth had tartar buildup. Luna had her annual checkup, and the exam revealed that she had pretty extensive dental disease. She is in need of a dental cleaning with extractions. Her dental cleaning will be a grade 3/4 which is for heavy to severe tartar and gum disease that is likely causing pain and infection.

Our shelter is a non-profit no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary in Plant City. We operate strictly off of donations and depend on fundraisers for expensive surgeries like Luna’s.
