About this campaign

Mabel's brush with death was narrowly averted because a volunteer from One By One Animal Advocates just happened to be at the animal shelter when the Redtick Coonhound came limping in. "Our volunteer heard Mabel's owner say she got her leg stuck in a trap and she was no good to him anymore," Heather A., from the group, tells Waggle.

The volunteer knew she had to act quickly, or Mabel would be looking at a death sentence. "The shelter euthanizes dogs, and they have no medical care or a budget," Heather says.

The volunteer now turned hero, got Mabel out and to Animal Care Clinic, Inc., where she became a staff favorite. Her veterinarian says poor Mabel has a "crush injury" to her leg, likely from the force of the trap slamming shut. They tried various means of saving her leg, but none of them worked. Now Mabel needs amputation surgery to live without the pain and infection she's suffering with now.

One By One Animal Advocates is heartbroken about what Mabel went through, especially with her sweet disposition and kind eyes. "You're outraged," Heather says. "You want to be shocked, but in these rural areas, some people don't value their animals. There was no love or compassion. She was just discarded."

With your help, Mabel will get the care she needs and be adopted to a family that adores and cherishes her.

"I hope people can see Mabel how we see her and see the value she has as a living being," Heather adds. "We appreciate the Waggle community who has such a compassionate heart and willing to help dogs they've never met. It's outstanding they care so much to make sure she gets what she needs."
