Madison Was Failed By Humans, Help Her Heal

Madison needs our help.

This sweet girl was rushed into care at Baw Baw Animal Welfare after suffering severe trauma from a firecracker explosion. The blast caused devastating injuries to her face, including fractures to both her upper jaw and lower jaw.

Madison is now receiving urgent veterinary care. Upon admission, the team immediately began stabilizing her with IV fluids and antibiotics to help support her body and reduce the risk of infection. Because of the severity of her injuries, she has been placed on strict NPO status, meaning she cannot eat or drink by mouth while the veterinary team prepares her for surgery.

Once Madison is stable enough, she is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the damage caused by this terrible incident. Her road to recovery will not be easy, but she is safe, being closely monitored, and surrounded by people who are determined to give her the chance she deserves.

No animal should have to endure this kind of pain. Madison’s injuries are heartbreaking, but with the right treatment, she has hope. Now, Baw Baw Animal Welfare needs support to cover the cost of her emergency care, surgery, medications, hospitalization, and recovery.

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share this final update on Madison. When Madison came into our care after suffering devastating injuries from a firecracker explosion, we promised to do everything possible to save her. She fought through emergency treatment, stabilization, and surgery with incredible strength, and for a time, it truly seemed like she was beginning to recover. We were hopeful. Then, without warning, everything changed.

Madison developed a severe neurological condition resembling Parkinson's disease. Despite the tireless efforts of our veterinary team and doing everything we possibly could with the facilities and resources available to us, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Tragically, we were unable to save her.

Losing Madison has been absolutely heartbreaking. She survived unimaginable trauma and showed incredible resilience, but some injuries are simply too severe to overcome. While her story did not end the way we had hoped, Madison's life has strengthened our commitment to helping other animals in need.

Her case is a powerful reminder of why Baw Baw Animal Welfare is working so hard to build its own animal clinic. Animals with complex injuries and sudden medical complications need immediate access to advanced monitoring, specialized treatment, and around-the-clock care. Having our own veterinary facility will allow us to respond more quickly and provide lifesaving care when every minute matters—giving future animals the best possible chance at survival.
