Magnus is a six-year-old German Shepherd in Frederick, MD, who needs $2,000 for hip replacement sugery.

Hannah N. saved Magnus from being turned into a shelter and then found out he needs major surgery.

"We got Magnus from an acquaintance who could no longer care for them. While in their first home, Magnus and Zoltan didn't interact with many people or dogs. They spent the majority of their time alone. When the owner decided that their care was too much, she was going to relinquish them to the pound. My fiancé (now husband) and I decided that we would care for them," Hannah tells Waggle.

Then Hannah got devastating news. "Magnus has bilateral hip dysplasia along with suspected elbow dysplasia. His hips make it so that it is difficult for him to get up and down the stairs. The surgeon at Skylos Sports Medicine said that a total hip replacement of Magnus's right hip would make it so that Magnus could live comfortably in his later years," Hannah says.

But the surgery is expensive, Hannah is trying to raise the money for it immediately. "I recently finished graduate school, and my husband and I moved states so that I could continue my training," she says. "Moving and housing costs are high, and we have been trying our best to provide for Magnus and Zoltan and give them the life they deserve."

Hannah says Magnus is quite a character, and she wants him to be pain-free. "Magnus is a talker. He is so vocal and lets you know exactly what he wants--usually a walk, car ride, tug-of-war, or access to the hose. He loves when we get his leash out. He usually sticks his nose right into the gentle leader, and if he sees that we are preparing the car for a hike or trip to the beach, he will talk and almost scream to let us know he is ready."

She hopes you might give to his campaign so he can return to being the dog he was meant to be. "Magnus loves water, snow, leaves--really anything that can be thrown at him," Hannah says. "He loves to grab at the water and try to bite it. And he's not quiet about it either. He could wake up the whole neighborhood with his excitement about the hose. Magnus also likes to meet new people and is known to yell when said person stops petting him."
