About this campaign
Marina came to our home after my previous service dog passed away. She is a full-trained Mobility Assistance Service dog, and isn't just a friend or family member...she is my way of navigating and being independent in the world. She doesn't know what it means to not be in service, and even when the vet her back for surgery she kept looking back to help me, when it was my turn to help her.
Marina was diagnosed with Pyrometra, a deadly uterine infection, that will kill her without emergency surgery. She was seen at Bradley Animal Hospital and rushed to Midwest Animal Hospital for surgery.
Marina uses her nose as my hands and her legs are my feet when I'm unable to do things. She pulls my wheelchair, opens doors, even the refrigerator for herself on occasion, helps me walk by using counterbalance, prevents falls, and the exacerbation of my illness by the tasks she provides. We are the first service dog team to paddboarded the entire 133mi of the Kankakee River from start to finish.
I was in a coma, on a ventilator, and ICU for a month, and told I may never walk again. When I went back to work, I got worse, and was on disability for 8 without work. Marina is the reason I can do things today and I would be LOST without her.
