About this campaign
One of our ferals is named Marmie (short for Marmalade). He is a sweet little orange tabby. Thirteen years ago Marmie’s owners abandoned him and he turned up in our backyard. He has been with us ever since. Marmie is approximately 19 years old. He gets along well with everyone, people and cats.
Marmie is mostly an indoor kitty theses days. He sleeps inside most nights on the bed with his brothers and sisters. Sometimes he likes sleeping outside when it is warm. He does enjoy laying out side in the afternoon, getting some sunshine on his whiskers. He is a very sweet cat and gets along well with everyone
Marmie holds a special place in our hearts because he was abandoned. My wife promised him that we will care for him until he crosses the Rainbow bridge. He will never be abandoned again. He is a very gentle sweet little kitty. He had to have several teeth pulled a couple of years back and now he looks like Elvis Presley when he smiles. He is one of the gentlest kitties I have ever met.
Marmie has severe periodontitis, which is starting to become systemic. It has already affected his eyes. He has lost a lot of weight and it is difficult for him to get around. If untreated the infection can spread and lead to sepsis, causing septic shock, multiple organ failure and death. He has an appointment with Dr. Dimov at Redwood Animal Hospital on 3/23 to get his teeth extracted.
For14 years, my wife and I have devoted our lives to caring for a colony of about 45 feral cats living in our backyard. We have TNRed 125 cats, fostered out 24 and adopted out 40. The cost is astronomical. Food alone costs $450.00 per month. We are both in our 60s .
