Mars entered my life on October 26, 2022, after I found her at the Fredericksburg SPCA in Spotsylvania, VA. I didn't know where she came from or what her story was, but I did know that she was the one for me. At 8 years old, she just needed a calm, quiet home to enjoy her retirement. Nowadays, we are rarely apart from one another. I cannot imagine what life would be like without her!

Mars is the sole furry companion in my home, aside from a betta fish in his tank. She reigns supreme, holding court over her kingdom with grace and affection. She is very protective of her family at-home but is a serene mistress when out-and-about. Mars is also a creature of comfort, finding solace in the warmth of her dog tent and bed or bite of roasted sweet potato.

Mars has collected a variety of nicknames, ranging from Miss Mars to Mars Bars (like the candy, after her stripes), that reflect the various facets of her personality - from poised to playful mischief. She loves her snuffle mats and long naps. She used to love long walks, but since her vision loss, is a little more fearful of the outside world. At home, though, she reigns supreme.

The journey to restore Mars's health is twofold - to eradicate the cancer that threatens her well-being and to ensure her quality of life for the years ahead. While her eye has been removed and the tumor partially excised, the road to recovery entails combined radiation and chemotherapy. Despite the uncertainties, Mars's prognosis is promising, and my sole focus is comfort and happiness.

The financial burden of Mars's medical treatment weighs heavily on my shoulders, as does my limited income and growing debt from her previous veterinary expenses. When it comes to the cost of cancer treatment, which is no small amount, every little bit helps!
