Mateo is my 5-year-old shih tzu-poodle mix and my everyday sidekick. I’ve had him since he was a pup as he came into my life as a gift, and we’ve been stuck together ever since. It’s just the two of us a lot of the time while I finish school and work. He’s been through every late-night study session and hard day with me, listening in as I rant about my day serving.

Mateo has been having some dental issues that turned out to be more serious than expected. What I thought would be an already pricey day turned into a more complicated (and pricey) procedure due to his small breed. We’re working with Broadlands Animal Hospital, and while this isn’t an emergency, it’s medically necessary and time-sensitive to avoid further pain or infection.

Mateo is full of personality and attitude. He “spins” when he’s excited for treats and gently huffs when he wants attention. He’s super friendly with people as a covid pup and always knows when I’ve had a rough day. He loves plushy toys (but will tear it apart), and his favorite game is a combo of tag tug-of-war. He’s been my emotional support in ways I didn’t even realize I needed.

I’m a full-time student and had around $1,500 saved for Mateo’s care, but it was recently stolen. I reported it, but had no luck. Without pet insurance, this procedure is a lot to cover alone. It's all just tough timing and Mateo's health is important so every bit helps. ♡♡♡
