Mattie is a 7-year-old Domestic cat in Winston-Salem, NC, who needs $900 for amputation of lower left leg to take out the cancer.

Mattie, a male cat has been with me for about 7 or 8 years. He & his sister (Maggie) were found on my porch in a box with a cover. I thought it was a package but I read the letter on top of the box and then lifted the lid. The letter said “ may you take these two kittens (just 2 or 3 weeks old) & save them from being run over.” I decided to call them Mattie & Maggie. He is protective of Maggie.

Mattie more than the cats love to be with me when I am on my lap top computer. He seems to be reading what I do on the computer. He drinks from the tub's faucet if there is a drip. He is the most affectionate cat and sleeps at my side and loves attention and to be petted. He bosses his sister Maggie and is a jumper, being the slimmest cat of them all. He follows me in the bathroom all the time.

I am a retired college teacher from a HBCU (NC A&T State University) (single)- almost 75 yrs. of age. My adult son still lives with me and is a substitute teacher but since Covid, is not working steadily. I have a dog and 7 indoor cats. I also have medical problems.

Mattie was diagnosed w/ cancer in June this year and the cancer was taken out of his leg but it has come back and his left leg has to be amputated. I have gotten other vet opinions. Chances are since the cancer is in the lower section, the cancer will be eradicated so says the vet oncologist. The operation is soon.

People know that I feed the feral cats near the University of NC School of the Arts. My son worked with a lady who fed the cats on campus and took cats in to their care. I always had a cat and a dog but we started taking another cat from the campus and then feeding the feral cats, so people in the neighborhood knew that I was a cat person and would take care of them. That is how I got Mattie.
