About this campaign

Maya's sad eyes are a window into her devastating past. When Charley's K-9 Rescue saved Maya from a local animal shelter, the group discovered her body was ravaged with more than 1000 puncture wounds.

"She was in septic shock, hypoglycemic, and hypothermic," Nicole B., with the rescue, tells Waggle. "She has had many surgeries for wound debridement, and the veterinarian even found gravel buried in her legs. It is believed that Maya was part of a dog fighting ring and was a possible bait dog,"

Despite everything Maya has been through, she still has a kind and sturdy spirit. "Maya is extraordinary," Nicole B. says. "She walked over a mile after she had been attacked to bring herself to safety."

The medical team at Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital is giving Maya round-the-clock care. "Despite her wounds, she is a fighter and the veterinarian has called her friendly and bright. Maya continues to keep good spirits despite all the awful things she has been through. She has a long road ahead but is expected to make a full recovery," Nicole adds.

The rescue has racked up medical bills exceeding $30,000 to help Maya. With your assistance, Maya will live a life free of fighting and pain in the future.
