About this campaign

We adopted Mayaken 3 years ago when she was just a small, malnourished puppy who looked like a tiny wolf due to her dark coat. We also have another dog, Pancho, who is so very attached to Maya and cannot go a second without her. The name, Mayaken, is of Aztec (Nahuatl) origin and it translates to "Wolf".

Mayaken enjoys long walks and takes her sweet time to smell everything she encounters. Maya sleeps with our 8-year-old son who absolutely adores her and seeing them grow up together has been so sweet to witness. To say the least, she is one happy, funny girl who has made such an impact on our family.

Mayaken is such a sweet girl who greets us every day with a nice little howl to let us know that she is happy to have us home. She loves to snuggle up to you, steals your socks when you aren't looking, and loves to hunt for any bug she can find.

After noticing that Maya was unable to bear any weight on her back legs, we took her to West Loop Veterinary Care where we set up a consultation with their orthopedic specialist, Dr. Wosar. Mayaken was diagnosed with a completely torn ligament in her knee and we decided to move forward with TPLO surgery. Maya is now on the road to a long recovery process, but we are hoping for the best.

Since this incident happened so suddenly, we unfortunately were not prepared financially to cover all of her medical expenses. Seeing her struggle has been difficult and having her healthy again would mean the world to us.
