About this campaign
Maybelle spent several days alone, camping out in an open field. No food. No shelter. No one to ease her pain. A Good Samaritan spotted her and posted a plea for help—and that’s when ThisIsHouston stepped in.
They welcomed Maybelle into their care, and what they discovered broke their hearts. She’s a senior Chihuahua mix and only 15 lbs. Despite everything, her tail still wags when someone offers her a gentle touch. But behind those sweet eyes is a story of survival no dog should have to tell.
Maybelle’s medical challenges are overwhelming:
-Her back leg has an old injury that’s far beyond repair. The only option is amputation.
-Her “good” back leg is also compromised. There's old tendon damage, severe arthritis, and a dead femoral head—a painful condition with no easy fix. Specialists are being contacted, but her mobility remains uncertain.
-She tested positive for heartworms and has signs of heart enlargement.
-She has at least one dead, damaged tooth that requires extraction.
-Early signs of pneumonia were found in her lungs, so she’s been started on antibiotics.
-And most devastating of all—Maybelle was shot. A BB gun pellet was found lodged in her, alongside evidence of an old fracture. Nothing can be done about that now, except ensure she’s never harmed again.
Through all of this, Maybelle has remained gentle, trusting, and grateful. Maybelle’s road to recovery will be long and costly. Please consider donating to Maybelle’s care. Every contribution brings her one step closer to a pain-free life filled with love.
