Meave is a five-year-old Pit Bull in Simi Valley, CA, who needs $2,000 for urgent surgery.

"I saw her, and I thought, 'Oh my god! I have to help this girl,'" Mark R., from Southern California Pit Bull Rescue, tells Waggle about the moment he saw Meave in a shelter.

Meave only weighs about 40 pounds but drags around three tumors hanging from her body. One is enormous! "I can't imagine carrying around a tumor this size," Mark says.

Despite everything, Meave is incredibly loving. "She suffered years of neglect, and she's not holding it against any humans," Mark adds. "She's really a sweetheart. She wants to be a lap dog, but she has that huge mass between her legs."

The medical team at VCA Animal Specialty Group in San Diego will remove the tumors and send them to pathology. Veterinarians will also treat Meave's horrible ear infections -- they are so awful her ears look like cauliflower on the inside.

If it weren't for Southern California Pit Bull Rescue saving Meave, she would have been a victim of economic euthanasia at the shelter. "They could not care for a dog like that," Mark says. "The shelters aren't going to spend that kind of money. It's cheaper for them to euthanize the dog. And who is going to adopt a dog that has masses like that?"

Mark says he is so thankful the shelter contacted him and asked if his rescue could take her. "We are blessed to be able to care for dogs like this," he says. "We think of ourselves as the voice for the voiceless. I started my rescue because of dogs like this. We are honored when we are given the opportunity to help them."

Now the rescue needs your help to save Meave a second time. "Donors help us do lifesaving work like this," Mark says. "You are helping to save the life of a dog the average person would not want to adopt."
