Mercedes' story is one of resilience, hope, and a little bit of luck.

This sweet orange kitten was found alone on the streets of Anaheim when she was just five months old. Despite everything she had already endured, Mercedes never stopped purring or greeting everyone with her adorable little tongue that always peeked out, making her impossible not to fall in love with.

Shortly after entering our rescue, Mercedes was diagnosed with FIP, a disease that was once considered fatal. After 86 days of intensive treatment, she beat the odds and survived. Unfortunately, the disease left her immune system compromised, causing severe inflammation in her mouth and gums.

We sought answers from three different veterinarians, hoping there might be another option. Each one came to the same heartbreaking conclusion: Mercedes would need a full dental extraction to end her constant pain.

As if that wasn't enough, Mercedes was also born with a congenital eye condition. The inflammation from her mouth led to an infection in that same eye, requiring emergency veterinary care. We knew there were still more medical hurdles ahead.

Before making such a life-changing decision, we wanted one final opinion.

Then something amazing happened.

At one of our adoption events, a kind woman named Lucky met Mercedes and agreed to foster her while she continued her medical journey. That same day, a veterinary technician from a dental specialty practice happened to stop by our event. She encouraged us to bring Mercedes to their office for another evaluation.

Although the specialists agreed that a full-mouth extraction was the only way to relieve Mercedes' pain, they were touched by her story and generously offered our rescue a significant discount to make the surgery possible.

On July 16, 2026, Mercedes received her full dental extraction.

For the first time in months, she has the opportunity to live without constant pain and begin enjoying life the way every kitten deserves.

The cost of her life-changing surgery was $1,200.
