Mickey is a 12-year-old Doberman/Great Dane in Greenwood, IN, who needs $1,900 for a transfusion,.

We rescued Mickey in 2008 from a family who got a dog and didn’t know they weren’t allowed to have dogs in their living situation. He was not in any danger but they couldn’t keep him.
He is named after NY Yankee Mickey Mantle. He is a gentle giant - Great Dane/Doberman mix. We were told he was a lab but it is quite obvious looking at him there is no lab in him.

Mickey is the ultimate protector. He guards our children as if they were his own. When our twins were babies-toddlers if we left them in a room (ie to go to the kitchen or restroom, etc) Mickey would place himself between all points of entry and the babies. He guards our home with his deep bark warning anyone who may enter.

This is a serious financial hardship on our family. My husband works 2nd shift making barely minimum wage. I work full time @ home. We are trying to do our best for our kids who are learning virtually. We have enough money to survive paycheck to paycheck but for nothing else.

On 2/10 Mickey suffered stomach and spleen torsion. He had emergency surgery and spent 4 days total in the hospital. He came home and wouldn’t eat/drink or take medication and he was very lethargic. I convinced my husband that his behavior was not normal recovery and he took him back to the hospital. Severely dehydrated and extremely low RBC, he had testing and it was determined he had GI bleed.

Mickey is so tolerant of our twins. He has been put in costumes for Halloween, and the boys have sat on him & Mickey takes it all like a champ. Our youngest twin was attacked by another dog and has since distanced himself from Mickey but when we visited Mick at the hospital, that twin got the best response from Mickey. He wagged his tail more for him than he did anyone else in the family.
