Mike showed up on someone's doorstep crying out for help. It was extremely hot and he was in desperate need of medical attention. It was clear he had be suffering for a long time.

ThisIsHouston rushed Mike to the ER for diagnostics. He was hospitalized and despite several treatments, nothing seemed to be helping. Mike had x-rays, ultrasounds, an MRI, echocardiogram, and bloodwork. Mike was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition he was born with, and about 80% of his brain is fluid. He started having seizures and still struggled to defecate on his own.

When it seemed that all hope was lost, Mike pooped! He continues to make steady improvements and has gained an appetite and is more alert. Mike's long term prognosis is uncertain but ThisIsHouston is taking it one day at a time and making sure he feels loved and comfortable each and every day.

Mike has been an extremely expensive case as he required emergency hospitalization, veterinarian specialists, and many diagnostics and medications. Despite seeming hopeless at times, ThisIsHouston refused to give up on Mike. Please consider donating!

Update 8/4/24:
Mike went to a holistic vet appointment yesterday. To no surprise, everyone there fell in love with him!
They ran a GI panel to see if it comes back with IBD or anything else. Megacolon was previously ruled out, but there are other things that could be going on that wouldn’t show in a normal test. He’s still seizure free and pooping on his own, but he has diarrhea now and started a new probiotic. He’s also not gaining any weight and is still not very interactive, but we’re still taking things day by day. As always, we believe in providing the best possible care to every dog we commit to and we couldn’t do it without all of you.
