About this campaign
Mila came from a shelter in southeast Missouri after being abandoned. Upon her initial vet visit, we discovered that she was Heartworm positive and would need treatment. This didn't deter us and she made her way north to Illinois where she moved in with a foster family. It didn't take long for her future Mom to be found with her good looks and sweet nature.
Mila moved in with her foster to adopt Mom as she began the long and risky heartworm treatment. She responded well to the treatment injections despite the side effect of being down following the injections. During this time she and her Mom, Kelly began working on training, taking casual walks around the city, and becoming inseparable best friends.
We would never have expected Mila to suffer pulmonary hypertension and be in the situation we are now wanting to give her the best care possible for a fighting chance. Mila never signed her adoption contract, please help us save her to give her & Kelly happily ever after.
Mila completed her heartworm treatment, not more than 10 days later she had difficulty holding down her food & water and began more and more lethargic as the hours passed. Something had gone terribly wrong and emergency medical care was necessary. A slew of lab work completed, including a cardiologist, it was learned that she would need to remain in ICU under oxygen and around-the-clock care.
You would be hard-pressed to find a more perfect little lady than Mila. She stole all of our hearts at the rescue and we were so excited that she found Kelly. There was no doubt in their connection when upon their first meeting, Mila went right to her and curled in her lap. She was accepting Kelly's pets and kisses, this was love at first sight.
