About this campaign

Early one morning, a call came in from animal control about a critically ill toy poodle who had just arrived—trembling uncontrollably, unable to stand, and in obvious distress. At just 2 to 3 years old and weighing only 3.5 pounds—less than half of what she should—Milkshake’s condition was heartbreaking. She was rushed to the emergency hospital, where her tiny body told a devastating story of long-term neglect.

Severely underweight, badly matted, and dangerously frail, Milkshake was physically, emotionally, and medically depleted. Her vacant eyes were filled with pain, confusion, and the faintest flicker of hope.

Still unable to stand, she began receiving round-the-clock supportive care. The cause of her collapse wasn’t immediately clear.

Was it the result of an underlying medical condition, or simply the toll of prolonged neglect? Diagnostics were initiated to find answers, and in the meantime, the veterinary team focused on stabilizing her fragile condition.

Slowly, there were signs of progress. Under close supervision, she began eating small amounts of food. She became a little more alert, a little more responsive.

The tremors that once overtook her body began to ease, even though she remained too weak to stand. Most importantly, she was no longer in pain—and she was surrounded by love.

Her condition remains guarded. An ultrasound is scheduled to check for a liver shunt, one possible explanation for her symptoms. Depending on those results, she may also need an MRI to evaluate for GME, a serious autoimmune disease that can affect the brain and spinal cord.

Milkshake has a long road ahead. But for the first time in her life, she doesn’t have to walk it alone. Please be part of her healing journey.
