Milo Needs Help After a Urinary Blockage Nearly Took His Life

Just days ago, Milo was teetering on the brink of septic shock, and his veterinarian gave him only a 50/50 chance.

This sweet, playful four year old cat was taken in by NY Cat Warriors as a stray in March 2026. Already neutered and ear tipped, Milo settled into foster care and even formed a special bond with another cat in his foster home. He seemed healthy and had a bright future ahead of him.

Then, without warning, everything changed.

Milo stopped eating normally and became increasingly lethargic. By August 22, his foster knew something was seriously wrong, and he was rushed to the emergency room.

Vets discovered that Milo was suffering from a life threatening urinary blockage. Although they were able to clear the obstruction, his bloodwork revealed that his condition was even more dangerous than initially feared.

Milo’s potassium had risen to a dangerously high level, putting him at risk of a potentially fatal heart arrhythmia. At the same time, his blood sugar had fallen dangerously low. In a cat with a urinary blockage, this unusual combination raised serious concerns about a severe infection and the possibility of septic shock.

Milo was admitted to the ICU, where he required intensive treatment and monitoring. He received insulin to lower his potassium, dextrose to stabilize his blood sugar, antibiotics to fight infection, pain medication, and careful monitoring to make sure he did not become blocked again.

For a frightening period of time, no one knew if Milo was going to make it.

Thankfully, Milo has begun responding to treatment. His kidney values and potassium have improved, his blood sugar has become more stable, and he has started eating small amounts on his own. He has improved enough to leave the highest level of ICU care, but Milo is not out of this yet.

He remains under veterinary care as his team watches closely to make sure his improvement continues and that he does not experience another blockage or complication. After coming so close to losing him, his rescue wants to make sure Milo receives everything he needs to safely continue his recovery.

Saving his life has also come at an enormous cost.

More than $7,000 has already been paid toward Milo’s emergency hospitalization, and his total veterinary expenses are expected to approach $10,000. For a small foster based rescue, one unexpected emergency of this magnitude has a tremendous financial impact.

Milo fought through a urinary blockage, dangerous bloodwork abnormalities, a severe infection, and the threat of septic shock. Now he needs our help as he continues fighting his way back.
