Minnie Mae came into our lives when my daughter, Emma, wanted me to have a mini dachshund again. She knew how much I loved my childhood dachshund and one as an adult. My husband gave me adorable Minnie and she has been spoiled with love ever since. She came during the perfect time, when the world needed a distraction from Covid. She kept our minds focused as our Emma battled her own health crisis

A few weeks ago, Minnie was sound asleep in her favorite deep seated chair. Someone came to the door and she jumped out. My daughter heard a loud snap sound. Minnie appeared to be in pain, so we brought her in to Caldwell vet. After a transport to Baystate ER care, then to a sister site at Ocean State Vet, she required emergency surgery for a ruptured disc. She is now sadly paralyzed..

Minnie Mae is our goofball. She had never known a day without fun. She had to be the first one out of the door, to run around the backyard, playfully barking and expressing her excitement always. We are all devastated by this. We are emotionally and physically drained. We are so sad that we can’t rewind time and get rid of the chair. She was walking before the vet, so that has equally been hard.

With the decision of homeschooling, came with the decision to not go out to restaurants, keep the budget tight, drive older cars, and live as simply as possible. We have put approx $12,000 on credit cards to save Minnie’s life. She also requires ongoing treatments.
