About this campaign
Motley joined our household from rescue when he was about 8-9 months old. He was attacked as a pup by a pack of wild dogs, and it was a miracle he survived. He had been in 4 foster homes before us, and we foster failed - in the best way. He's enjoying life as a couch dog and unofficial paw patrol of the neighborhood. He has an older sister (coonhound) and a younger sister (beagle).
Motley has cancer. We know it cannot be cured, but treatment will give him (and us) more happy, healthy days. We are working with Dr. Segaloff at Advanced Veterinary Specialty Center in Walpole (MA). We are attempting to fund as many IV treatments as possible for the best outcome, and then we will switch to more palliative care.
Motley is the dog who has survived everything and still loves. He survived the mauling as a puppy, a toe amputation (from the mauling), an intestinal rupture from a foreign body, a mast cell tumor, and my desire to dress him up. Through it all, he just loves to love. He's been the mascot for Dog4U rescue campaigns. He loves to snuggle his daddy and grandparents, and playing with his sisters.
We spent around $11,000 for his emergency treatments, and it took most of our reserves. I'm a substitute teacher, and I run a nonprofit. The emergency was about 1/2 my annual income. My husband now needs to pick up everything else for our dual income home.
