About this campaign

Over the past month, Mr. Big Man has lost nearly half of his body weight.

This once-strong street cat is now painfully thin, and the reason is heartbreaking: a severe, painful abscess in his mouth has left him unable to eat. For weeks, Mr. Big Man has been silently starving—not because food wasn’t available, but because eating was simply too painful.

Mr. Big Man began visiting a small colony of cats cared for by a dedicated feeder. When that colony had to be urgently relocated after it was discovered that someone was poisoning the cats, Mr. Big Man stayed behind. He rarely wandered and spent much of his time near a nearby food truck where kind people looked out for him.

Even after the colony moved, his caretaker continued stopping by to leave food and check on him. But when she checked in recently, her heart sank—Mr. Big Man hadn’t eaten in nearly two weeks. That’s when it became clear that something was seriously wrong.

On January 19, Pumpkin’s Rescue Club stepped in to save his life.

Mr. Big Man was brought in for urgent veterinary care, where he was sedated for a full examination. He received diagnostic blood work, infectious disease testing, and immediate treatment to relieve his pain. Veterinarians confirmed he has significant oral disease and will need a dental procedure to address the source of his suffering. On top of that, he’s also battling an upper respiratory infection and is now on antibiotics.

Because Mr. Big Man has no safe place to recover, he is currently being boarded while we search for a foster or determine the best long-term plan for him.

Life on the streets is brutally hard—especially for cats like Mr. Big Man who quietly suffer until they simply can’t anymore. Without intervention, his condition would have continued to worsen. With proper care, he has a real chance to regain weight, live pain-free, and finally experience comfort and stability.

Pumpkin’s Rescue Club is asking for help to cover diagnostic testing and sedation, pain management and medications, antibiotics and follow-up care, a much-needed dental procedure, and boarding costs while a safe placement is secured.

Your donation today helps give Mr. Big Man relief from pain and a chance at a healthier future. Every dollar raised goes directly toward the care he needs right now.

He survived the streets. Now he needs us to help him heal.

3/7/26 Update

We’re happy to share a wonderful update on Mr. Big Man’s journey.

Thanks to your support, Mr. Big Man was able to receive the veterinary care he desperately needed, including diagnostics, treatment for infection, and care to address the painful dental disease that had left him unable to eat. Your generosity helped relieve his suffering and gave him the chance to begin healing after weeks of silent starvation on the streets.

But the good news doesn’t stop there. Mr. Big Man has now moved on to a specialized rescue that focuses on caring for and adopting out cats with FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). This incredible organization has the experience, resources, and network needed to ensure that FeLV-positive cats like Mr. Big Man can live safe, comfortable lives and find loving homes that understand their needs.

Because of this partnership, Mr. Big Man is now in the best possible place for his future, surrounded by people who are dedicated to giving cats like him the care and opportunities they deserve.

What started as a heartbreaking situation—a starving street cat in terrible pain—has turned into a story of compassion, teamwork, and second chances.

This outcome would not have been possible without the kindness of every person who donated and shared Mr. Big Man’s story. Your support helped get him off the streets, out of pain, and into the hands of people who will continue to advocate for him.

From all of us at Pumpkin’s Rescue Club, and from Mr. Big Man himself—thank you for helping change his life. 🐾
