About this campaign
Our precious boy, Mr. Morton, needs urgent help. This special guy has an unstoppable spirit and is full of joy and strength, despite being partially paralyzed and incontinent. He has been part of the Rescue Kitties of Hawaii family for the past five years, ever since his rescue.
During a routine gland expression, we discovered a swollen lump in his groin. Shortly after, Morton developed a high fever and began whimpering in pain, which is extremely out of character for our happy-go-lucky guy. We knew immediately this couldn’t wait. He was put on the first flight to Oahu, where veterinarians performed emergency surgery and removed the mass just in time.
Mr. Morton’s prognosis is good, but he still requires round-the-clock ICU care, fluids, and antibiotics to prevent further infection. Dr. Lam at VCA surgically removed a very large abscess and thoroughly cleaned the area. This process, known as debridement, involves removing damaged or infected tissue so healthy tissue can heal. Right now, the priority is preventing infection and sepsis, which is why Morton must remain under close medical supervision.
We know how resilient he is, and with your help, he can return home to his siblings and friends at the rescue. If you’re able, please consider donating to give our sweet boy the lifesaving care he needs. 🩵🐾
2/26/26 Update
Mr. Morton's wound is looking very healthy! The culture confirmed he is on the correct antibiotics for the bacterial strains that caused the huge abscess and infection. The surgeon started closing his wound today.
He has diarrhea from the strong antibiotics but VCA Drs and techs are taking such phenomenal care of him. He must remain hospitalized until the wound is fully closed, drain is removed, and he can be brought home to fully heal on Molokai. Praying it’s soon!
4/30/26 Update
