Nerms and I have been together for nearly her entire life - we rescued each other when she was a tiny farm kitten. I'm so thankful for the bond we have... it's unlike anything I've ever had before. We currently live with her two cat "brothers," Rusty and Tyrael, plus her "little sister," Rosie, a rambunctious Border Collie/Lab foster "fail."

Nermal LOVES getting treats. She will pester anyone who comes to the kitchen with her hoarse little squeaks, hoping someone will pause to give her "uppies," which is when she stands up on her back feet and stretches to take the crunchy treat dangled above her. She takes turns sleeping with everyone in the home, especially when we have guests. She's a wonderful welcome wagon and hostess!

Nermal has been with me for the toughest times of my adult life. Breakups, new jobs, moving to a different state, and most recently, losing my dad. She always senses when I'm upset, and is sure to sit on my chest to purr or knead against me to calm me down. Her uncanny ability to sense when anyone in the house needs her is what makes us so desperate to return the favor and help her out now.

For the last few years, we've been successfully managing Nermal's chronic kidney disease through routine exams and carefully selected foods. This week, she began to lose her appetite and started throwing up. A visit to the pet hospital has resulted in two nights of an overnight stay where she is being treated for dehydration and a potential kidney or urinary infection.

Last year, my dad suddenly passed away. My mom suffered an accident that left me caring for her, both of which impacted me financially with airfare, time away from work, etc. Recently, we were hit with over $14,000 in bills to replace our home's AC, electric panel, and more.
