About this campaign

Nick’s story began last December, when he fell out of a moving truck and suffered a devastating back injury that changed his life forever. The shelter that took him in reached out to multiple rescues, but each one said no. We were their last call — and we said yes.

Nick lost the ability to walk, but with surgery, months of physical therapy, and a whole lot of determination, he made an incredible comeback. Despite everything, Nick’s spirit never wavered. He learned to walk again and, this past July, was adopted by a wonderful dad who has loved and cared for him deeply.

Now, Nick is facing another heartbreaking battle. He’s currently in the hospital fighting for his life with a serious urinary issue that’s affecting his kidneys and has led to a seizure. His urine is dark and bloody, and the medical team has struggled to place a urinary catheter — a dangerous complication on its own. Their immediate goal is to keep his bladder drained and his kidneys flushed while they search for the cause.

As of this morning (10/27), doctors still couldn’t place a standard catheter, but they were able to get some urine out and relieve some pressure. Overnight, Nick remained in the ICU, and a pigtail catheter was placed to help empty his bladder — it’s risky and carries a chance of sepsis, but it’s giving him a fighting chance.

His dad has been by his side through it all, waiting for every update from the surgical team. The two share a deep bond — one built on months of recovery, resilience, and love.

When Nick’s dad rushed him to the ER last night, the situation was critical. The vet team discussed euthanasia, and the treatment estimate — $8,000 to $11,000 — was overwhelming. But he couldn’t give up on Nick. And neither could we.

This Is Houston has already placed an $8,662 deposit to ensure Nick gets the urgent care he needs. We made a promise when we rescued him — to be there for him, no matter what — and we’re keeping that promise today.

Nick has defied the odds once before. Let’s help him do it again.

Your donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward his ICU care, diagnostics, and ongoing treatment. Nick, his devoted dad, and all of us at This Is Houston are so deeply grateful for your support.

We fought for Nick once. We’re fighting for him again. Please help us give him another chance.
