About this campaign

We rescued our sweet Nico on October 1, 2023. We'd expected the adoption process to be long and intensive, but to our surprise, we were quickly approved; we drove out to New Jersey, determined to bring her home only if she was a 10 out of 10 and definitely "our dog." When the volunteer carried her out like a babe in arms, we knew. We are 100% in love with her and excited for a long life together.

Nico sleeps in our bed with us or her own bed nearby if she needs a little space. We both work from home, so she has plenty of attention, but she's an independent and curious girl - a perfect blend of character and cuddliness. I always call her "a love" - she is naturally friendly and sweet with humans and dogs alike. A friend to all! She loves walks and making friends in the dog park.

She loves to be chased, and will tease even the big dogs in the park into a spirited game. Her playful bows make me smile every day, and she's so cuddly - she loves to be held, and the way she snuggles into us before our morning walks brings such joy.

Nico suffered a scratch, possibly from a cat, that turned into an infected abscess, leading to a softball-sized wound on her chest. In the hospital, where her stay will last about 4 days, the wound is cleaned and drained daily; once healthy tissue begins to grow, she can be stitched up and sent home, but she will need continued monitoring and follow-ups. She is staying at VERG in Brooklyn.

This sudden accident and the resultant vet bills (totaling some $8,000) have put us in a ruinous financial situation. We simply do not have the savings to cover this huge cost, and though Nico’s health is our #1 priority, we are in desperate need of help.
