About this campaign

I adopted Niko from my local cat rescue shelter. His life started rough and almost ended when his first owner brought him to the vet to put him down. The vet had his first owner surrender Niko and rehabilitate him from a severe food allergy. When he was adoptable, I became his new owner. Niko has been the best pet I could ever want. He’s cuddly, expressive, and beautiful.

Niko is the middle child of the household. His older sister Ajá was my first rescue after I was in remission from leukemia. Six months later, I adopted Niko. Three years later, I took in my neighbor’s outside cat, Chloe. Niko is the big brother to Chloe and the younger brother to Ajá. Chloe snuggles and headbutts Niko often. Niko is the quintessential older brother to a rambunctious youth.

Niko is a very personable cat. He is beautiful, affectionate, talkative, playful, and entertaining. I never know what drives him to act like a kitten or an older adult, but he is so loving. He is calm and sweet, so I can’t live without him. In pictures makes these poses that are so charismatic and sweet. Everyone who meets him immediately is amazed at how beautiful and happy he is.

Today I brought Niko to AtascaZoo Animal Hospital for his annual check-up. I noticed he lost weight within the past few weeks. When I realized he dropped from 16.7 to 13.6 within a month and a half, I had bloodwork done. At first, I was sure it was diabetes, but after chatting with a few vets, it seems likely he has Hyperthyroidism.

I am currently working but on an extremely fixed income. I tried to increase my CareCredit limit and was denied. I can't afford a scratch pay loan. I paid for Pet Insurance today, but I know his disease will be considered a pre-existing condition. I have no emergency funds.
