About this campaign

Oakie is a 14-month-old grulla Quarter Horse gelding that my boyfriend gifted to me because I’ve always been obsessed with grulla horses. He has been lovingly raised from a baby and is boarded at a stable in Michigan, where he enjoys turnout, friends, and plenty of hay. He has become my best friend and means the world to me.

Oakie was recently diagnosed with Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) and a peroneus tertius injury after unexpectedly becoming lame. His veterinarian has consulted with surgeons at Michigan State University Veterinary Medical Center, where surgery has been recommended. As he rests and heals from his tendon injury, we're preparing for surgery to give him the best chance at a comfortable, pain-free life.

Oakie has the sweetest heart and brightens every day with his playful personality. He loves attention, follows me around, and is always curious about everything happening around him. Watching him grow from a tiny foal into the horse he is today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. He isn’t just my horse—he’s family, my best friend, and a dream I’ve worked incredibly hard to build.

I'm 22 and working full time to give Oakie every chance to recover. His diagnosis and surgery were completely unexpected, and despite careful planning, the costs are beyond what I can manage alone. Every donation, big or small, helps us get closer to giving Oakie the care he needs.
