About this campaign
Oakley is my best friend. I adopted him (at an event held on Oakley St.) from a rescue group in Chicago, called PAWS. He was saved from a kill shelter in Oklaholma and I found him at an adoption event. He has gotten me through everything life has thrown our way. Recently, my other rescue, Olive, had to be put down at the age of 14. Oakley has had a very hard time adjusting.
Oakley always, always sleeps with me in my bed - or - underneath it! He absolutely LOVES toys, especially small tennis balls and anything that squeaks. He is extremely smart and we love to go to the dog beach - although, he has to wear a life vest because he simply does not know how far out he gets!
Oakley was bonded to my other rescue dog, Olive, but she had to recently be put down at her old age. Oakley usually 'knows' when he sees a dog person. He will playfully growl and get on his hind legs until he gets a pet. One of his ears no longer goes down and I love that bout him. He also loves to bring me toys when I come home!
Oakley had a sudden growth over his eyelid. It grew quickly in size so I took him in to the vet. I then took him to another vet for a second opinion, who did a biopsy and returned a diagnosis of a cancerous mast cell tumor. I took him to a third vet, an ophthalmologist, and she put him steroids for 2 weeks and now we are hoping to remove the tumor so he can continue living his life pain-free.
I did have carecredit, but putting down my second dog, and then taking him to six additional appointments, quickly maxxed out my low credit limit. I am a single person on a single income and my rent and bills takes up all but a few hundred dollars a month.
