Opey is a 10-year-old Chihuahua in Scottsdale, AZ, who needs $1,370 for dental extractions.

This little guy is Optimus Prime (or Opey for short). I rescued him in the summer of 2012 from a man who was selling him and his siblings out of a box on the side of the road in the 110 degree Arizona summer heat. The puppies were malnourished and way too young to be taken from their mother. If I could have taken them all I would have, but I could only take one, and that is how I found my Opey!

I was still a teen when I found Opey and about a year ago I decided to move back in with my dad so I can finish getting my college degree. This way he isn't lonely and can spend time with my dad and my dad's dogs, Elvis and Josie, while I am in class or while I am at work. Opey has never failed to greet me at the front door when I come in from a long day of studying or waiting tables.

I am a college student and I pay out of pocket, and because of the Covid pandemic I have been laid off, it's been super hard. I have tuition, books, car payment, living expenses. I pray every day for Opey. It hurts so much to see Opey in such pain, please help Opey.

I went to Boston to see my brother, it was the first time I'd ever left Opey. When I got back Opey was so sick, he lost weight, his breath was very foul and he wasn't eating. I could tell he was in terrible pain. I rushed him to Pet Dental USA where they diagnosed him with severe Dental Disease. Opey needs 20 to 29 extractions. The vet prescribed antibiotics and mouth wash for pain.

Opey loves to burrow under the covers of our bed, with only his little nose poking out. (I have to be careful not to sit on him.) I've trained him to sit and lay down and he has trained me to give him his favorite treats. Opey loves to play tug of war, and he especially loves the dog park. He is very social and despite his small size he loves to play with the other dogs. Doing his best to keep up!
