About this campaign

Otis, a 16 month old Bloodhound, was saved from life as a hunting dog in North Carolina and came to Paws Crossed Rescue in Elmsford, NY in Nov 2020. We adopted Otis on March 31, 2021. Otis is a wild child but we're working on it. Otis will start free training to become a civilian search and rescue dog when his heartworm treatment is done. He might help you or a family member someday.

Otis loves going to the dog park and playing with his friends. He loves to swim, and play fetch. Otis's idea of fetch is we throw it, and he waits for us to walk over and throw it to him again. I'm getting exercise though! Otis is very vocal when daddy comes home, with Bloodhound bays until daddy gives him a dog biscuit.

We're seniors on a fixed income and his treatment is breaking the bank. We need help to pay for our gorgeous Otis vet fees that keep adding up. Next week $400 for x-rays, the shots are $900, on n on to cure our baby. If he doesn't get the treatment...well...

On May 21, Otis seemed to be limping on his back left leg. Maybe too much running or hiking. Off to the vet we go. Possible sprain but Dr. Cimer wants to test for Lyme. When Dr Cimer said, "Heart worm," we were shocked. He tested negative in Nov. 2020 but positive in May 2021. He had it in NC, it takes 6-9 months for a positive to show up. Otis has stared his oral meds and the shots July 25.

Otis is fascinated by the fire whistle and sirens. Head back he howls a tune. We're lucky the neighbors find it funny. He finds the sprinklers amazing wanting to run through them. Otis is a big mush with plenty of wet kisses with and loving.Otis always has us smiling and laughing with his funny antics. Otis is sad now. He's on cage rest for 4 months. From 100 mph to 0. I can't explain it to him
