About this campaign

In January of 2019, we saw a plea on Facebook for somebody to take a family's dog. Their son was very allergic and it was sending him to the hospital. We saw Patch's goofy face and knew we were that "somebody." Patch settled in nicely with our other 2 dogs and quickly became our children's favorite.

Patch has been our camping buddy, our snuggly friend, and our children's protector. He follows his momma everywhere when she is home. He sleeps underneath the kids' loft beds all night so they feel safe and secure. Whenever he can, he sneaks up on the bed for a cuddle. He is always excited to see you and acts as if you have been gone years instead of minutes.

One of Patch's favorite things to do is chase carpenter bees on the porch. He jumps in the air when he sees one flying by. One time, we even found him on the table watching as a particularly allusive bee flew above him. He doesn't catch them often, and when he does, is SHOCKED that he actually got one. He prances around the yard so happy and proud.

On June 21st, we were leaving and called Patch. He didn't come, which is very unlike him. Dave found him unable to use his back legs. We rushed him to the emergency vet immediately. We waited until the next day when they performed an MRI and found he had intervertebral disc extrusion with severe extradural spinal cord compression and epidural hemorrhage. He needed surgery ASAP to walk again.

We have a ton of personal medical bills from various emergencies and diagnoses. The bill for Patch is almost $11,000. This will add about $600/month to the bills we were already behind on. Stacey has been out of work since March and will not return until Sept. as a teacher
