Meet Patrick — A Happy Boy Facing Two Cancers with Courage

Patrick is a recent shelter save who’s already proven he’s a fighter. Estimated to be 7–9 years old, this sweet senior came to us with more than anyone hoped — he’s battling both mast cell cancer and lymphoma. Despite everything, Patrick remains a happy boy with zero complaints, soaking up love and wagging his way through each day.

Since arriving, Patrick has undergone extensive diagnostics to understand what we’re up against. He’s already had bloodwork, an ultrasound, and x-rays. Most recently, he saw an oncology specialist for additional testing to help determine which cancer needs to be prioritized. To get answers, his veterinary team performed cytology samples from his enlarged lymph nodes, spleen, and liver. We received some encouraging news — his liver and spleen showed no evidence of mast cells, which is a positive step forward. However, low-grade lymphoma in those organs can’t be fully ruled out yet.

We’re now waiting on the lymph node results, which will help determine the best next steps for chemotherapy and treatment. These results are critical in building the most effective plan to give Patrick the time and quality of life he deserves.

Through it all, Patrick remains gentle, loving, and full of joy. He doesn’t know he’s sick — he just knows he’s safe, cared for, and finally surrounded by kindness. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to fight for him.

5/15/26 Update

This sweet senior boy continues to amaze us with his resilience, his joyful spirit, and his endless capacity for love. Despite everything he is facing, Patrick remains happy, affectionate, and completely focused on enjoying every bit of kindness and comfort that comes his way.

Even more encouraging — Patrick’s masses are responding to his medications and are shrinking! This is such positive news and gives us hope as we continue working closely with his oncology team to determine the best long-term treatment plan for him. He will be heading in for another oncology follow-up soon so we can continue monitoring his progress and next steps.

And in true Patrick fashion, he has managed to gather an entire fan club around him. Right now, he’s splitting his time between two loving foster homes, meaning he is absolutely surrounded by people who adore him. Whether he’s soaking up cuddles, relaxing comfortably, or wagging happily through his day, Patrick is finally getting the love every dog deserves.

While we know Patrick still has a long road ahead medically, seeing him so comfortable, loved, and thriving emotionally means everything.

Because of your incredible support, Patrick has been able to receive the diagnostics, oncology care, medications, and follow-up treatment he desperately needed — and we cannot thank you enough for standing beside him through this journey.

When Patrick first came to us from the shelter, we knew he was facing an uphill battle. Diagnosed with both mast cell cancer and lymphoma, this sweet senior boy deserved every chance possible to fight for more time, more comfort, and more love. Thanks to your donations, we were able to provide extensive testing, specialist consultations, imaging, medications, and ongoing oncology care to help give Patrick the best quality of life possible. And through it all, Patrick never stopped being Patrick.

Despite everything his body was facing, he continued to greet each day with a wagging tail, a gentle spirit, and endless affection for everyone around him. He built an entire fan club of people who fell in love with his resilience and his joyful heart. Watching him finally experience safety, comfort, soft beds, cuddles, and unconditional love has meant more than words can express.

We were so encouraged to see his masses responding to medication and shrinking, giving us precious hope and more quality time with this incredible boy. Every step of the way, your support made that possible.
