When Adopt a Cat Foundation first met Peaches, a sweet calico girl, she was on the euthanasia list at a rural kill shelter. Why? Because she was obese, and the shelter simply didn’t have the resources to help her safely lose the weight she needed. For Peaches, that was almost a death sentence. Thankfully, Adopt a Cat Foundation stepped in and gave her a second chance.

With a loving foster home and a veterinarian’s carefully tailored feeding plan, Peaches is now being monitored closely to ensure she sheds pounds safely. This is especially important for cats—losing weight too quickly can cause a dangerous condition called hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). But just as Peaches was settling into her new life, another obstacle appeared.

Her foster noticed wetness and discharge on Peaches’ fur. Worried it was a UTI, she rushed her to the vet. The truth was even harder: due to her weight, Peaches had developed painful dermatitis on her belly where her skin folds. The infection had gotten so bad it was oozing. Peaches is now receiving medication to heal the infection and reduce inflammation.

Peaches didn’t deserve to be abandoned, and she certainly doesn’t deserve to lose her second chance because of medical bills. With your help, we can make sure she continues to receive the treatment and monitoring she needs to heal and thrive.

Peaches is doing so much better! She’s losing weight at a healthy, steady rate and feeling more comfortable every day. Her skin has improved, her energy is up, and her foster says her personality is shining through more than ever.
